Meteor Crater, also known as Barringer Crater, was created approximately 50,000 years ago when a nickel-iron meteroite, roughly 110 yards across was sent on a collision course with Earth. By the time it struck it had lost about half of its mass and measured 55 yards across. The resulting crater is 3,900 feet across and 570 feet deep.
