Following an evening of high winds in
Death Valley National Park, the next morning saw large amounts of dust and sand still airborne, especially near the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. This image, to me, captured the beautiful moodiness caused by the particulate-speckled air bringing out the layers of the mountain's canyon.
In metering this scene, I had to slow down the indicated shutter speed by one full stop to let more light on to the sensor. Shooting in automatic or at the indicated settings would not have produced the effect that closely matched what my eyes saw.
