Arctic Fox (Captive), 1986
This was an important photograph in my journey into wildlife photography. I had the opportunity to purchase a 600mm Canon lens from a fellow photographer who was getting out of the business. It's a mammoth lens meant for wildlife and sports photography, but I had never shot with anything like it.
So, I took the lens to the Brookfield Zoo to practice and learn how to shoot with it. While there, I took a number of images that to this day are still favorites. This one was such, an arctic fox in its white coat, lounging on her log, curiously watching my fumblings with this monster lens. At the time, this outdoor enclosure was off the beaten path of the zoo and many people likely missed seeing her.
I loved the extremely shallow depth of field that this lens produced and a wonderfully blurred bokeh. Some day, I hope to own the autofocus version of this lens, but at $13K+, it's a long ways off.
Anyone want to buy 130 prints of this???
