Juvenile Blue Jay (July 2, 2010, 6:38 pm)
Standing in my back yard, we watched a juvenile Blue Jay take his fledgling flight from a nest 20 feet above the ground. On the way down he plunked onto my shoulder, flapped to the ground and hopped into a nearby Japanese bittersweet shrub.
He stayed in the shrub long enough for me to go retrieve my camera and make several images - seemingly unafraid of our presence.
With this image, I love the stare and the lighting of the leaves and background behind the bird. Plus it's a baby bird...c'mon...
