Canyon Wall and Clouds, Big Bend National Park, TX (February 14, 2016, 3:52 pm)
I think I am drawn to clouds as much as any other subject. As much as any other subject, they are nature's moment in time that will never come again. They can paint the landscape with any mood and I love capturing them in black & white, when their shapes take on visual meaning for me.
From the bottom of this canyon in Big Bend, this collection of cirrus clouds high above was in perfect harmony with the swirls in the basalt and volcanic ash tuff. Knowing that this was a very active volcanic site, the clouds remind me of whisps of smoke from cooling earth.
