Ice Patterns, Big Creek, Sturgeon Bay, WI (January 29, 2016, 4:19 pm)
Along Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, the conditions could not have been for a photographic venture into the woods. In parts, the streams had frozen over solid, but water rushed beneath. In openings such as this, the freeze-thaw cycle produced beautifully sculpted edges of ice, on one hand looking abstract in form while at times appearing to be carved of Swarovski crystal.
I have several favorites from this sequence, but I come back to simplest of compositions that play up the quality of the sculpted ice.
