Sheryl at Community Caves, Spearfish Canyon, SD (2015)
The hike up to Community Caves from the valley bottom is still, to this day, one of the most difficult hikes I've done. There is absolutely no stable footing, with rocks and flowing water from streams tumbling down an 800 foot descent from up above. Climbing this hill is like being in a nightmare where you're trying to get uphill but the hill keeps sliding down. It's quite well worth it in terms of the view. A 50lb backpack of camera equipment plus a tripod doesn't help much as the weight of it keeps pulling you backward...
Oh, and did I mention that there are no trail markers whatsoever? People point and say "it's kind of up that way"...
