Sun Pillar, Kane County, IL

Sun Pillar, Kane County, IL

I've seen only a few sun pillars before but never when I happened to have a camera available. Sun pillars occur, typically at sunrise, when sunlight reflects off the surfaces of falling ice crystals of high-level clouds.

Like the others I've seen, these last only a few minutes, but are just stunning!
