Sunset and Moonrise, Capitol Reef National Park, UT (September 13, 2016, 8:29 pm)

This one of several favorite photos I took the evening of September 13th in Capitol Reef National Park. Weather was changing rapidly and the skies were vastly different every half minute. I moved at a high rate of speed between shooting locations and scurried to setup each fantastic scene that unfolded.

Under very windy conditions at Panorama Point, a cloudburst cleared the last few tourists from this well visited sunset vista above Sulphur Creek. It looked as though opportunities for photos were over but that of course is when most of the magic happens. Now alone at this usually packed vantage point, the clearing storm parted to reveal the last rays of sunset in the distant clouds. And just before taking this photo, the largest mass of clouds opened up, revealing the rising moon. It was a bonus at the moment that added one last dimension to the shot that was already quite rewarding.
