Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, UT (September 17, 2016, 5:42 pm)
When Sheryl and I rounded the corner of the 4WD road through this section of Grand Staircase and caught our first glimpse of this cranberry-pink and white "wave", we were awe struck. At a distance of approximately a quarter mile, it was approximately 100 ft tall and appeared to be composed of smooth marble (though it wasn't). It jutted out of the ground amongst yellow craggy spires. The wave changed dramatically in appearance under different lighting conditions but was always stunning.
