Free Standing Chokestone, Big Bend National Park, TX (February 14, 2016, 12:38 pm)
This scenic view at the top of the hill and is spectacular in every direction.
After taking a number of shots, I switched to an ultra-wide lens (12mm on a full-frame sensor 35mm camera) and saw this view. The extreme wide angle results in leading lines that help draw the viewer into the center of the photo.
The conversion of the image to black & white ultimately created the impact I was looking for.
Finally, whoever rates this hike as "Easy" didn't really take into account the last 1/4 mile. The first mile truly is easy and spectacular in terms of scenery. The last 1/4 mile is a scramble up boulders, slickrock and loose stone that make it a challenge, especially with a 50lb pack on one's back. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, but with the knowledge of what's involved near the end. A great hike to a memorable scene!
