Morning Storm Over Hanksville, UT (September 11, 2016, 7:33 am)

Morning Storm Over Hanksville, UT (September 11, 2016, 7:33 am)

I've noted before, but I seem to find magical photographs each year on September 11th and I'd like to believe that's for a reason. This particular morning was supposed to be clear and sunny - rather uneventful. But when I awoke just before dawn and saw a sky filled with mammatus clouds, I grabbed my camera pack and tripod and made a beeline for this site about 20 minutes north of Hanksville, UT.

Angry clouds were swirling and billowing overhead, while a glorious sunrise was breaking, making for an unforgettable flurry of photography. Everywhere I looked, something interesting was happening, and 5 minutes later, it looked completely different in every direction. Pockets of rain would dump and then immediately stop.

Returning back to the hotel, Sheryl asked, "did you find anything interesting?"
